Beginning in mid-October, weekly homework will be assigned every Monday. All necessary materials will be handed out along with an overview that will be reviewed in class together. You will also find the overview on our classroom website under "DDLS" (Devoirs De La Semaine). Students are directed to use a binder to organize their homework (DDLS) to avoid "losing" worksheets. Work is usually due the following Monday (to be corrected in class together or handed in), however sometimes, work may be assigned in preparation for an activity during the same week (therefore to be taken into consideration when planning the homework throughout the week). Students are also made aware of assignments that may be evaluated informally or formally as well as upcoming tests to included study sessions within their homework period. Students are given classroom time (on Monday) to plan out their week's work in their agenda (an excellent way to develop time management skills). This can be fine tuned in the evening (with the support of parents) as extra curricular or family commitments are added. Continue to support and encourage your child to plan out their weekly homework in detail.
Avoid Homework Frustration......
After a busy day at school, remember that you should only spend a maximum of 40 minutes (gr. 4) or 50 minutes (gr. 5) a day on homework as a general rule. Make sure to communicate with us if you are feeling frustrated with assigned work so that we may support learning in the classroom. We encourage students to plan effectively from Monday to Thursday for homework completion to allow for a full restful weekend. Any homework that is not understood should be brought in to class for discussion with the teacher who assigned it. Communication is essential to successful learning.
