Keep in the loop!! We have so many exciting things happening in room 14. Make sure to always check this link to keep in touch with our plans!!!
Assemblé pour l'Armistice vendredi le 9 novembre Thank you to the Remembrance Day committee (Cooper, Olivia, Emily & Izzy) who planned an art activity for the class on Tuesday, November 13. Cooper shared some of his grandfather's medals and pictures of planes and Olivia brought in some delicious muffins. Everyone shared what they had done on Remembrance Day to commemorate this important day. Special Committees and Events
Student leadership is an ongoing skill to develop. Students in room 14 will discuss special committees and each student will have the opportunity to participate in at least two committees throughout the year. Keep a look out for the exciting events that will take place in Grade 4/5 Div. F03 this year at Sherwood Park.
We are starting our first yoga session this coming Monday. I have not had a chance to prepare the students yet, so I would ask that you have them bring comfortable/appropriate clothing to school to enable for stretching; - shorts (preferably stretchy to allow for easy movement ) - short sleeved T-shirt - a bottle of water (please do not send juice as an alternative) The school has yoga mats. However, if your child has a yoga mat that they would like to bring, they are welcome to. Please ensure that your name is visible in case it is left behind. Namaste, Our class will be going to Ron Andrews Pool to swim as part of our P.E. program. We will go on October 12 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The cost of admission to the pool is $3.00. We will be taking local transit during the "Ride Free" week so there is no added cost for transportation. Please send in your $3.00 with your child.
If you are able to accompany us on this field trip please let me know as I am required to have at least one extra adult supervisor. We have the opportunity to go to the Bighouse next week, after the long weekend!!! Today, the gr. 4 students and I had a chat about packing for the Bighouse. An important equation...... Warm + Dry = HAPPY The better organized and prepared the students are the happier they will be and the better the experience! Please make sure to take the time to pack with your child. They need to know what is in their bag.... you get to be a helper!! Please make sure to meet us in the upper parking lot of Cates Park at 7:30 am on Tuesday, October 9. The bus leaves by 7:45 am PROMPTLY! ( I've emphasized with the students the need to be on time... and to have had a good sleep and to have eaten a nutritious breakfast!!!). Students should have their rain gear with them ON THE BUS, as well as a snack. I have assigned weather watching as homework for the next 7 days. Please encourage your child to be independent in checking out this weather website. Today, we had our very first class meeting. I was very impressed by how all the students approached the class meeting in a very calm, respectful, grown up manner. Our gr. 5's will be beginning to chair the meetings starting next week. The gr. 4's will also all have a chance to chair a class meeting before the end of the school year.
We started discussions of our compilation of this morning's brainstorming for "What is an ideal classroom?". Good opinions were shared and good discussions ensued. We will continue next week and hope to have an agreement in place soon. It will be published on our classroom website! Next week, parents will also have an opportunity to leave their thoughts for "What is an ideal classroom?". There will be a large web on the board that can be added to during the "open classroom" portion of the Carnival evening. |
