I encourage all students to be practicing basic operations skills so that by the end of this year, you have increased your automaticity (and speed).  Knowing your basic facts automatically is such an advantage when we use bigger numbers!

Recommendations:
•  download Mathmateer Free (used to be Rocket Math): a free iPad app to practice
basic operations easy, medium and hard levels
•  flash cards:  make your own, or check out this website to purchase three corner flash cards (learning number families)
•  check this website  to print out practice sheets for various math concepts

If you have not yet checked the menus under the title "Gr. 4/5 Div. F03", I encourage you to do so.... have you watched any of the Math finger multiplication youtube clips that I've posted?  Very interesting!!

This is a really interesting video clip to watch!!  I know how creative my students are.... this is a nine year-old boy's idea that grew!!!  Just imagine what you can create when you expand an idea!!

Food for thought!!  A wonderful speaker who often reminds me to look at my students in a different light!!  I also have a copy of his book, "The Element" which is very much worth reading.  Please see the YouTube clip below if you are interested.

A beautiful video dealing with acceptance of diversity... One of the actors is Nick Vujicic,  a powerful speaker that shares his message of overcoming adversity.  Born without arms or legs, Nick's favourite quote is, "If you fail, try again!"  Perspective, Vision & Choices are what he speaks of in his You tube clip, "Nick Vujicic, No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!! Part 1 & 2"

Thinking about creativity...... This is one of my most favourite interesting video clips to watch!!  I know how creative my students are.... this is a nine year-old boy's idea that grew!!!  Just imagine what you can create when you expand an idea!!
