The gr. 5 Social Studies program continues from where we left off in Gr. 4, having learned about Canada's Aboriginal peoples, the coming of the explorers and the development of Canadian society.  Now, students will look at  how the past has shaped what Canada is today.

This term, students will be studying Canada's varied physical regions, the natural resources throughout Canada and also beginning to make connections between BC's past and present.

Our Grade 4 students will have the opportunity to attend the Bighouse program in Squamish, BC for two days, living as the First Nations peoples of the Cheakumus lived 2000 years ago.  This is only possible with the support of volunteer Parent Elders and the classroom parents.  It is truly a wonderful learning opportunity to experience first hand the three major understandings of the First Nations Culture:  Seasonality, Sharing and Respect.

Forms are being sent home to be completed and returned!
We are looking for Parent Elders volunteers who would be willing to attend an orientation on the weekend of the 22 and 23rd of September as well as attending the Bighouse overnight with us on October 9th and 10th (Tuesday, Wednesday).
In class, we are getting prepared to make this very special moment at the Bighouse in Squamish a wonderful learning opportunity.
