Special Committees and Events

Student leadership is an ongoing skill to develop.  Students in room 14 will discuss special committees and each student will have the opportunity to participate in at least two committees throughout the year.  Keep a look out for the exciting events that will take place in Grade 4/5 Div. F03 this year at Sherwood Park.

  • Our gym schedule is finally set and I dare say that I believe that this week, I can finalize the classroom schedule.  Your child should get a copy glued into their agenda by the end of the week!!!

  • Please note, that we only have two gymnasium periods per week with an extra period that we alternate with another class on Wednesdays.  However, students should always come ready for Physical Education since we will either do physical conditioning either outside (weather permitting) or in the multi purpose room when it is not our week to have the gymnasium space.  According to Ministry guidelines, students are to receive at least 30 minutes of Daily Physical Activity (DPA) per day.  Students must wear appropriate clothing and shoes as well as have a bottle of water (not juice) to be ready for exercise.  Appropriate wear/equipment is part of their evaluation for P.E.

  • Monday:  11: 20 - 12:05 (yoga in room 6: once a week, beginning Monday, Oct. 22)
  • Tuesday:  8:50 - 9:20 (gym:  every week)
  • Wednesday:  8:50 - 9:20 (gym alternating with Multi-Purpose room)
  • Friday: 1:00 - 1:30 (gym:  every week)

We are starting our first yoga session this coming Monday.  I have not had a chance to prepare the students yet, so I would ask that you have them bring comfortable/appropriate clothing to school to enable for stretching;

-  shorts (preferably stretchy to allow for easy movement )
-  short sleeved T-shirt
-  a bottle of water (please do not send juice as an alternative)

The school has yoga mats.  However, if your child has a yoga mat that they would like to bring, they are welcome to.  Please ensure that your name is visible in case it is left behind.

Namaste,

Our class will be going to Ron Andrews Pool to swim as part of our P.E. program. We will go on October 12 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The cost of admission to the pool is $3.00. We will be taking local transit during the "Ride Free" week so there is no added cost for transportation. Please send in your $3.00  with your child.
If you are able to accompany us on this field trip please let me know as I am required to have at least one extra adult supervisor.

We have the opportunity to go to the Bighouse next week, after the long weekend!!!  Today, the gr. 4 students and I had a chat about packing for the Bighouse.  An important equation......

Warm + Dry = HAPPY

The better organized and prepared the students are the happier they will be and the better the experience!  Please make sure to take the time to pack with your child.  They need to know what is in their bag.... you get to be a helper!!
Please make sure to meet us in the upper parking lot of Cates Park at 7:30 am on Tuesday, October 9.  The bus leaves by 7:45 am PROMPTLY! ( I've emphasized with the students the need to be on time... and to have had a good sleep and to have eaten a nutritious breakfast!!!).  Students should have their rain gear with them ON THE BUS, as well as a snack.

I have assigned weather watching as homework for the next 7 days.  Please encourage your child to be independent in checking out this weather website.
